Jordan Lowdon interview

Former Clyde left-back Jordan Lowdon put pen to paper earlier this week after leaving Elgin City and can’t wait to get started at Forthbank.

How did the move come about?
I know the gaffer from before – he was in at Clyde when I was there – so I know what he’s like and his personality and he knew mine, so it’s something that just came together. I always had in my head that this is where I wanted to be so I’m chuffed to be here.

Have you played your whole career at left-back?
That’s where I’ve played my best football. I can do a job in left midfield and I’ve played centrally as well but left-back or left wing-back is where you will get the best out of me.

How do you assess the season just finished with Elgin?
I enjoyed it and we started pretty well, lost our way then had another good run but as soon as the play-offs slipped away from us the season just went downhill. We were training twice a week in Perth to begin with then once a week in Aviemore and doing fitness stuff on your own which is quite difficult. I’m based in Airdrie so this is perfect for me and I’m sure will make me a better player.

You know this league well – how do you see next season going?
I see Stirling as one of the bigger clubs, who should be pushing for league titles and promotion. Hopefully I can add to the squad and do well for the team. I don’t know too many of the boys – Peaso from Clyde obviously – but I’m looking forward to meeting them. Everyone here is going to be thinking the same, which is to be right up there. I thought Stirling were a good footballing team this season and probably quite similar to Elgin in that on their day they could do well against anyone. I think sometimes it’s about game awareness and a bit of savvy on the pitch to kill games at times.

Who impressed you most in League 2?
I would probably say Peterhead were worthy winners because they had people all over the pitch who could win the game. At Elgin we quite often got the better of them football-wise but they were more ruthless and that’s what wins you games. I imagine it will be a competitive league next year and we need to be ready for it.

You had a bad injury at Clyde but are obviously over that now…
I had a two-year contract at Clyde and missed about 18 months out it because of double knee surgery. That was a bad time and I’m looking to make up for lost time. I played every game for Elgin this season and I needed it to get back into the groove but I feel great now. That knee is probably stronger than the other one.
