Cambusbarron 2-2 Stirling Albion

Graham Hamilton reports from Mill Road Park

On a warm, balmy evening in Cambusbarron, the Albion kicked off shooting down the slope with former players David McClune, Greg McDonald and Ross Forsyth starting, along with youth players William Greenhorn, Ross Hutchison (returning after a bad eye injury) and Cammy Murray. Paul Willis was the only one of our 10 summer signings to feature.

The Albion dominated the first half (40 minutes each way) and, after a couple of half chances, we went ahead in the 16th minute when Max Wright found himself free in the box and slotted home.

William Greenhorn had to be replaced by Kyle Banner after picking up a calf injury then in the 27th minute we doubled the lead when Cammy Murray turned a defender to score with an angled strike from the right.

Cambusbarron started the second half shooting down the slope after changing their whole team at half-time, with the Albion introducing Ross McGeachie, youth keeper Josh Scoon and manager Kevin Rutkiewicz.

We started well and in the 53rd minute the home keeper made a great stop from Danny Jardine but it all changed after a mad spell around the hour mark. Jardine passed the ball back straight to an opponent and, in attempting to win the ball back, he fouled the player just outside the box – from the free kick the hosts sent a superb curling shot into the corner. From the restart the ball fell to the gaffer, whose poor pass-back was intercepted by the forward to take it past the keeper to equalise.

Ross Hutchison hit the top of the bar with a looping effort and a number of substitutions saw Cammy Thomson, youth player Alex Jamieson and Martin Hardie all come on. The home side had a couple of shots come close and Hardie sent a free kick over the bar.

In the end, a fair result on a warm night in an entertaining match. Next up is a game against Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park on Saturday when most of the squad will get a run-out.
